On a site walk, your hands are already full
Drawings in one, phone in the other, maybe a pen as well. And the thing you actually need, which revision this detail is on, what the spec said, whether it changed last month, is on the phone in your pocket, and you have no hand free to get it out.

That isn't a new problem. It's a problem we stopped noticing.
👓 On Tuesday NVIDIA opened up a toolkit for building agents that see through AR glasses, in public beta.
The agent stops waiting for you to type. It sees what you see, hears what you say, checks it against your organisation's own information, and answers.
People are already building on it: Siemens, for factory engineers looking up maintenance information and verifying what was done; a team at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, for guidance during surgery, with the explicit requirement that it must not clutter the surgeon's view; VITURE, which has put it into safety glasses so frontline workers can get context hands-free.
⚠️ Three things not to over-read:
It's a developer library, not a pair of glasses. You cannot buy this and wear it tomorrow.
The compute sits behind it, DGX Spark, DGX Station or RTX PRO class systems. The glasses see and speak; the thinking happens elsewhere. This is not a £300 headset doing it alone.
The compute sits behind it, DGX Spark, DGX Station or RTX PRO class systems.
Every named use case is high-value, factory floor, operating theatre, research lab. That's not an accident: those are places where one missed piece of information is expensive enough to justify the cost. Construction will follow. It isn't first.
🎓 What does it mean for learning?
The same thing the last decade has been saying, more sharply: the value of holding information in your head keeps falling.
When the glasses already know what the spec says, which revision the drawing is, and what changed last week, how much you can recite stops being the skill.
What's left is what you do when the site and the paperwork disagree.
Is the drawing wrong? Did someone build it wrong? Or is the drawing right and the conditions changed, and now somebody has to decide? None of those are answerable from a database, because none of them are lookups. They are judgements.
Which is the same direction as the other two stories this week, the EU making AI declare itself, Cloudflare letting agents buy their own domains. The machine takes over knowing. What stays with us is judging, and drawing the line.
If a pair of glasses knew everything on record in your field, which part of your job could it still not take?
