📐 I tried CADCraft, a free open-source AutoCAD alternative, and had my AI agent draw two sheets to my standard
Last week, writing about VectorCraft, I said an unofficial site listed a CAD version that I couldn't confirm. Now it's real: CADCraft, an AutoCAD-style 2D CAD from the ArtCraft team on their official GitHub. Open source, free, written in Rust.
I tried v0.13.0. To be clear: I didn't draw these by hand. My AI agent drove CADCraft on my PC and drew two sheets to my own drafting standard: a 1:50 A1 floor plan and a curtain wall detail sheet (1:5, 1:2, 1:50). Layers, pens, text and marks follow my standard. I set the standard and judged the result.

・Real xrefs: attach, reload, unload and bind all work
・No account, and every command can be driven by AI. The floor plan took 1,579 commands in 84 seconds of agent time (not human drafting time)
Who it's for: learning AutoCAD commands for free, sketches and details, teaching, and anyone who wants to try AI driving CAD directly.

・Saving back to DWG drops some objects
・No XCLIP, no SHX fonts
・No wall, door or window objects, just 2D lines
・No AutoCAD on my PC, so I haven't checked that AutoCAD opens its DWGs
・Very new: the repo opened on 7 October
Who it's for: learning AutoCAD commands for free, sketches and details, teaching, and anyone who wants to try AI driving CAD directly. Not yet for exchanging DWGs with others.
My verdict: the CAD is good, enough for your own drawings. For DWG exchange, wait a few more versions.
